first visit to ghana
my first trip to ghana came about quite surprisingly in late 2019. out of the blue I received a phone call by an emeritus professor of ophthalmology who asked me for a donation to his charity in ghana in the form of a laser system for use in ophthalmology.
at that time I was heading up the german subsidiary of an australian medical technology company. I couldn't donate a system, but we agreed good terms and I volunteered to do the installtion myself to safe on local installation expenses (apart from the additional complication that the company did not have representation in west africa).
so, after many doctor visits, vaccinations and a longish visa application process I bought myself a ticket to accra and carved out two weeks of time in early 2020 to travel to ghana, in particular the kumasi area to help out with the charitable project at the anglican eye clinic in jachie, outside of kumasi.
