labour day
back to serious business - it’s labour day today, so i’ll put some work in! but only as much as the international pilgrims’ union allows.
i walked with ian today.
it was kind of funny, because i talked pretty much about the same things last time i walked this stretch of the camino with another fellow pilgrim. it seems day three is reserved for life stories. for the curveballs life throws at you.
many years ago an old friend, i have long ago lost touch with, said something to me along the lines of: it’s time you stop revolving about yourself, stop complaining about things that happened in your life, that happen to you, better start making things happen for yourself the way you would like them to be.
it took me a fair bit of time to work through that one. in fact i’m still working on it.
what is it that i want? we are all spoilt for choice and we are urged to want more of more, but actually, at the base of everything, there are only a few needs that we should want to cover, and really not a lot that we need to want.
so here i am on the camino, being reminded of how simple life can be. you have enough, you are enough, you are ready for anything, you have the tools to deal with anything. just take the next step. and then another one. never stop, until you reach the end.
we talk about how helping other people actually helps yourself. how it sets into motion this cycle of people paying forward kindness when they can, to people that really need it and how it generates the trust in us, that if or when we need solitarity, somebody will be there.
yoyu. if you would like to know more, post a question below.
we ended up in a different albergue than originally planned. it is a former church, converted into a two story albergue with probably about 100 beds. another concerto de ronquidos awaits - but, since i have yesterday discovered the noise-cancelling feature of my headphones, i will be fine.
our ways will part tomorrow, for ian to have a shorter day and for me to stick to the stamp sequence. tomorrow’s stamp says pamplona - puente la reina, so there i’ll go. and i’ll leave early, since only one albergue has beds available on a first come first serve basis.
now for some more exploring around town and a pedazo of something. egun on de pamplona!
