provincial galicia

today was spectacularly unspectacular.

rolling hills, pastures, interspersed with little forests, but always the faint roar of the national highway closeby. and it was directly at that highway that we found our food options.

there is not much choice here really, especially early in the season, but that is ok. we managed to get our coffees with a generous slice of lemon cake, later some tortilla with eggs and potatoes, nothing like the store-bought wheat tortilla bread we have in berlin.

there are always interesting characters to observe in these bars and cafes along the way. mostly men going for a quick coffee or a chupito, a licor con hierbas or the like - no matter what time of day.

tonight we end up in vilalba, the main city of the terra chá, nothing much to report on apart from a large industrial park that also houses the municipal albergue.

we opted for a private one closer to the town centre, so we don’t have to walk far when we head out to eat later.

restaurants open at 8 and the kitchen starts at half past usually. tonight i hope it will be a galician taverna, if my ladies allow.
